I didn’t step into the bright, buzzing world of SEO and then walk straight to the spotlight; I began backstage, with lines of code. Over the last 14 years, I grew from full-stack web builder into the backstage engineer who keeps the URL red carpets rolled out. I watched developers—the best I know—push slick, bleeding-edge apps in React, Vue, and beyond; then I watched their analytics nous like a sad blue screen of death. A sweet idea launches, then organic traffic drifts into a black hole. I traced the fingerprints back to the crawl budget, the JavaScript shadows, the meta tag mistakes. Now I build bridges so the robots can enjoy the view, and the organic applause can pour in.
There’s a major e-commerce client I still think of whenever server-side rendering comes up. Their revenue nosedived 40% overnight after the fresh, slick single-page app went live. The ultra-fast design dazzled, but Googlebot saw a blank page when it rendered. After a deep dive, we discovered that the crawlability issues were hitting memory on the server. By switching to a hybrid SSR setup that sent a fully rendered page to the bot but still loaded client-side in the browser, we brought lost traffic back in three months. Then we pushed organic visibility up another 60% on the pre-migration yardstick. The upgrade taught us in real time how entangled performance, design, and visibility have become. Modern development and SEO are two heads on the same dragon.
My work starts on a base built in two classrooms—one on a campus, the other in the code editor. I earned a BS in Computer Science, wrapping up algorithms, data structures, and the blueprints of web architecture. After that, I sharpened the pencils and passed the tests, picking up the Certified JavaScript SEO Professional (CJSP) and the Advanced Framework Rendering & Performance Optimization (AFRPO) badges. The skills I carry into every project include:
I’m convinced the only way to grow is to let others climb with you, so I share what I’ve learned. If you’ve scanned respected corners of our field, you’ve probably seen my step-by-step guides and technical breakdowns pop up in Search Engine Journal or on the Ahrefs’ Blog. I tackle the tricky parts of technical SEO in on JavaScript-heavy sites, turning circus data into calm, manageable insights. I’ve also field-tested my findings and case studies on stages at BrightonSEO and SMX Advanced. Sharing in person lets me swap ideas with sharp minds and keep the conversation rolling, pushing the industry a little further every time.
The core mission behind everything I do is closing the gap between web development and search engine optimization. It drives me to offer practical, straight-talk advice built on ethics, so both coders and marketers can craft sites that are fast, secure, and loved by Google without ever cheating. When I write, my aim is to unpack complicated tech topics into bite-sized steps the team can try within the same sprint. I envision workshops, reviews, and sprint backlogs sharing the same whiteboard, where sharp code and graceful search-friendly content pull in the same direction. Success means a faster web, a fairer web, and a discoverable web that serves everyone.
